LIGHT ADJUSTABLE LENS IN ORANGE COUNTY

At Laser for Eyes, we pride ourselves on always providing you with the latest in vision technology. There are always new frontiers in improving your vision, and we want to make sure you always have access to them. Just one example of these innovations is the Light Adjustable Lens. This adjustable intraocular lens is a great way to optimize your vision for better healing and sight. The IOL is implanted after your cataract has been removed, and the procedure is more or less the same as for a non-adjustable IOL.

WHAT MAKES A LIGHT ADJUSTABLE LENS SPECIAL?

With Light Adjustable Lenses, we can now customize your vision after your cataract surgery. Dr. Ghosheh will test your vision upon your return, and you will be able to preview and compare possible vision outcomes based on your preference. Once we’ve figured this out, you can select a prescription for your adjustable lens, and Dr. Ghosheh will then reshape your implanted lens based on the needed vision correction. You may require 3 to 5 total treatments to reach your goal.

WHY DO I NEED A LIGHT ADJUSTABLE LENS?

Although cataract surgery has advanced in recent years, predicting how your eye will heal before your cataract surgery remains difficult. As a result, only 6 out of 10 cataract patients achieve their targeted vision. The Light Adjustable Lens will help you customize your vision afterward. Although there are various types of IOL, few can match the Light Adjustable Lens. Patients with the Light Adjustable Lens are more likely to achieve 20/20 distance vision at six months without glasses than those with a standard IOL.

The FDA approves this treatment for cataract surgery patients as well as patients with astigmatism. There are other options for IOLs, and Dr. Ghosheh will go over all of them with you.

HOW DOES THE LIGHT ADJUSTABLE LENS WORK?

After your lens has been implanted, Dr. Ghosheh will perform light treatments on it in his office, exposing it to UV light. The lens is made of a unique material that allows it to change shape based on the amount of UV light it is exposed to. Therefore, several different light treatments may be needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOLLOWING YOUR CATARACT SURGERY

There are two significant differences following your surgery as compared to a non-adjustable intraocular lens (IOL):

As the lenses are made of a special photosensitive material, too much exposure to UV light can cause them to change shape and effectiveness. You should wear these lenses during all waking hours until 24 hours after your final treatment is completed. These glasses may be removed for sleep or showering but must be kept on whenever you are exposed to direct sunlight or another UV light source.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE TREATMENT?

You are placed in front of a Light Delivery Device during light treatment, which sends light into your Light Adjustable Lens. The lens will change shape until it reaches the desired effectiveness. Performing the treatment this way lets Dr. Ghosheh refine the lens based on your specific desires. Three days after the treatment, your vision will be assessed.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The initial treatment will occur two to three weeks after your cataract surgery, with any subsequent light treatments occurring in three-day intervals. Each treatment lasts a little over a minute, and about three-to-five are needed in total. The purpose of the treatment is to give you the vision that meets your specifications, so that may involve more appointments or less. The important thing is that we get it right.

Once you are happy with your vision, the lens power is locked in with definitive treatment. We recommend wearing the glasses for an extra day, but after that, you’re done!

Orange County Lasik Reviews

I had Lasik along with 3 of my friends and we are all seeing better than 20/20. I would recommend him to anyone.

-Nicole P.

I had Lasik done here about 3 months ago. I can’t believe I waited so long to do it. My left eye is 20/20 and my right eye is 20/15 now. I LOVE it!
